Our annual Winter Warm-Up was held January 27, 2017, and more than 30 volunteers, staff, participants and their families participated!

Thanks to our dedicated volunteers, staff and participants, were were able to provide a warm ethnic meal for all, which included curry chicken, vegetarian maqluba and friend rice.

In December more than 450 guests, volunteers and staff celebrated Christmas at three parties in Northern Virginia, Southeast DC, and Northwest DC. With singing, bingo, face-painting, balloons and of course Santa and his merry band of elves, the Samaritan Ministry Christmas parties were festive occasions to be community together across geographical boundaries as well as income levels and race.

On Saturday, November 5, 2016 a record setting 250 Samaritan Ministry friends, old and new, came out to celebrate 30 years of Next Steps and the 2016 Gala, themed "Stepping Into the Future." In the beautiful sanctuary of St. Stephen and the Incarnation Church in DC's Columbia Heights, where Samaritan Ministry's first office was located back in 1986, we enjoyed the beautiful music sponsored by Marifran Bustion and Richard Sellers, and the delicious food of Mindy's Catering. On April 10th more than 50 parishioners from Transfiguration Episcopal Church and Church of Our Saviour both in Silver Spring, their friends and Samaritan Ministry staffers walked up New Hampshire Avenue with a police escort. Walkers encouraged drivers to honk for the homeless and held signs that said, among other things, "Welcome the stranger." This intergeneration walk included three generations of one family from a youth to our oldest walker at 70+ years.

Saturday, May 2 at 9 a.m. a group of 35 inspired Samaritans from 7 partner parishes gathered at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, K Street.  They gathered for Samaritan Ministry’s first ever Empower the Homeless Community Walk.  They bore witness; homeless brothers and sisters are our neighbors indeed and our neighbors in need.  They shouted “End Homelessness Now!”
