Holiday Party Brings Smiles and Joy

Amid tables lined with food and piled high with craft activities such as ornament painting and cookie decorating, Samaritan Ministry participants celebrated the holidays with their families and friends. Thanks to our generous hosts at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church in Southeast DC, Sunday's Christmas party brought together over 60 program participants, their families, and 25 volunteers and staff members.

While children lined up to get their photo taken with Santa or poured multicolored glitter onto tree ornaments, parents and adults visited the secret Santa Shop in the basement. There they selected gifts for themselves and their children from among the hundreds of toys and gift cards that filled up the small room.

Thanks to donations from eight Partner Parishes and three individuals, approximately 107 children will be receiving Christmas gifts this holiday season. When finding a place to sleep or searching for employment takes up so much of their energy and resources, the ability to pick out several gifts at once and all in one place is a blessing for many participants. As the volunteers in the Santa Shop can attest to, the visitors were full of smiles, joy, and gratitude!
