SMGW Gala 2019 - A Night to Remember

The 2019 Samaritan Ministry Gala was a resounding success! Some 285 people gathered at the Duke Ellington School for the Arts in Georgetown on November 9 to honor participant Teresa Batts with the Outstanding Achievement Award; Kathy Staudt for the Compassionate Samaritan Award; and Church of Our Saviour of Silver Spring for the Outstanding Partner Award.

The evening was hosted by emcee Rev. Gayle Fisher-Stewart of St. Luke’s DC, and auctioneer John McMillen of partner St. Andrew's Episcopal School, Potomac, led the crowd through a rousing live auction and Support Our Program, formerly called “Raise Your Paddle.” Dozens of bidders vyed for live auction items and the number of contributions made during Support Our Program nearly tripled last year’s level of contributions.

Our intention to redesign the Gala was present throughout -- the evening began with more opportunities for fellowship and connection; the Silent Auction shifted its focus to church-created and sponsored grand baskets, resulting in great competition to secure the winning bids for unique and generously-filled baskets. We focused on corporate sponsorship, with Amazon joining our team of sponsors this year, and we had a total of 20 sponsored tables. The venue itself provided an elegant setting with the jazz ensemble adding ambience.
